Every injectable treatment at Rejuvenation Dermatology Calgary South is performed by Dr. Paul Kuzel, a board-certified dermatologist, in person. Neuromodulators for lines of expression, hyaluronic acid fillers for shape and volume, collagen stimulators for the foundation of the face, skin boosters for texture and glow, and Belkyra for fat under the chin. This page explains what each does, what it does not, and how to choose.
Most patients arrive asking for a product. The better question is what the face needs, and the product follows from that. Dr. Kuzel assesses the face as a whole and recommends by problem, not by brand.
Botulinum toxin relaxes the muscles that fold the skin. Used well, expression is preserved and the lines soften. Both products are used here; the choice is by area and by how the patient has responded before.
The original and most studied. Frown lines, forehead, crow's feet, bunny lines, gummy smile, chin dimpling, neck bands, jaw slimming and sweating. Lasts three to four months.
BotoxOnset a day or two sooner and a slightly softer spread, which suits large areas such as the forehead. Dosing differs from Botox and is not unit for unit.
DysportThe same products treat severe underarm sweating, chronic migraine and jaw clenching. Some medical uses are covered by drug plans.
Excessive sweatingHyaluronic acid is a sugar the skin already contains. As a filler it restores volume and defines shape on the day, and it can be dissolved if needed. Each brand has a range of gels from soft to firm, and Dr. Kuzel uses all three.
The broadest range, from Volbella for lips and fine lines to Voluma for cheeks and Volux for the jawline. Smooth, long-lasting gels.
JuvedermA firmer gel texture that holds shape well in the lips, chin and jawline, plus Skinboosters for the neck, chest and hands.
RestylaneA Canadian-made filler with a spherical particle structure that produces less swelling, which suits the lips and patients who swell easily.
RevanesseThe enzyme that dissolves hyaluronic acid filler. Used for correction of previous filler, for overfilled results, and in the rare emergency of a blocked vessel.
Hyaluronidase treatmentRather than filling with a gel, these products prompt the skin to build its own collagen. The result is your tissue, it lasts longer, and it is not reversible, which is why placement and patient selection matter.
Diffuse volume across the cheeks, temples and lower face, built gradually over a course of sessions. Lasts two years or more. Also used for skin quality and off the face.
SculptraImmediate firm structure for the jawline, chin, cheekbones and hands, with collagen building afterward. Diluted for skin quality on the neck and body.
RadiesseFiller for a specific shape, immediately and reversibly. Stimulators for the foundation, gradually and durably. Many plans use both.
These treat the skin rather than the shape beneath it: hydration, texture, glow, and, for PRP and exosomes, hair.
Hyaluronic acid microdroplets in the skin of the cheeks for hydration, smoothness and glow. No added volume. Lasts about six months.
SkinviveYour own concentrated platelets, injected into the scalp for pattern hair loss or into the skin with microneedling for texture and scars.
PRPCell-signalling particles applied after microneedling or laser to speed recovery and improve skin quality. Used where the evidence supports it.
ExosomesThe only injectable approved in Canada to remove fat under the chin. Permanent, over a course of sessions, for patients whose fullness is fat rather than loose skin.
Two to four sessions six weeks apart. Fat cells that are dissolved do not return. Compared with CoolSculpting and liposuction on the page.

Double chinInjectables are available in many settings. What differs is who assesses the face, who holds the syringe, and what happens if something goes wrong.
No referral is needed for cosmetic injectables. Most treatments are performed at the first visit once the plan is agreed.
Cosmetic injectables are not covered by Alberta Health Care. A few medical uses are.
Assessment of severe sweating, chronic migraine and hair loss is covered by Alberta Health Care when a physician refers you. The botulinum toxin product for severe underarm sweating and chronic migraine is covered by many drug plans.

Botox relaxes muscle and treats lines made by expression. Filler adds volume and treats lines and hollows that are there at rest. Many patients need one; some need both. The assessment decides.
None is best for everything. Juvederm, Restylane and Revanesse each have a range of gels, and Dr. Kuzel chooses by area, by the firmness needed and by how the patient has responded before.

Not if the goal is a face that looks well rather than a face that looks treated. Dr. Kuzel treats conservatively and adds at review rather than overfilling on the day.
Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase. Sculptra, Radiesse and Belkyra cannot, which is why they are used only where the anatomy and the result are predictable.
In the hands of a physician who knows the anatomy, injectables have a long safety record. The serious risk with filler is a blocked vessel, which is rare, is minimised by technique, and is treated immediately with hyaluronidase kept in the room.
Usually. Dr. Kuzel assesses what was placed and where, dissolves hyaluronic acid filler where needed, and plans correction once the tissue has settled.
Not for cosmetic injectables. A referral is needed only for medical assessment covered by Alberta Health Care, such as severe sweating, chronic migraine or hair loss.
