Platelet-rich plasma is your own blood, spun to concentrate the platelets and the growth factors they carry, and returned to your skin where repair is wanted: with microneedling for texture and fine lines, under the eyes for crepe and dark circles, over acne scars, and after laser to shorten recovery. There is nothing in it that did not come from you. Platelets are the cells that arrive first at a wound. They carry the growth factors that tell skin to rebuild.
PRP is marketed widely. The uses below are the ones with controlled evidence behind them.
Microneedling with PRP improves texture, fine lines and tone more than microneedling alone in controlled studies. The commonest use, and the best supported.
RF microneedlingCombined with microneedling or fractional laser, PRP improves rolling and boxcar scars beyond the procedure alone and shortens healing between sessions.
Acne and acne scarringApplied immediately after fractional or ablative resurfacing, PRP reduces redness and shortens downtime in several trials.
FraxelInjected into the thin skin below the eye, PRP improves crepe, texture and dark circles caused by thin skin. It does not fill a hollow; filler does that.
Under-eye fillerWith microneedling, PRP improves crepe and texture on the hands, neck and chest. Volume on the hands is a filler question.
Hand rejuvenationPRP does not add volume, lift tissue or replace neuromodulator. Products sold on that basis are not recommended.
PRP does very little on its own. Its value is in what it is paired with and in the skin it is used on.

PRP applied to the face immediately after microneedling, so it enters through the channels. Three sessions four to six weeks apart for texture, fine lines and tone.
Small volumes injected into the thin skin below the eye with a cannula or fine needle. Two to three sessions a month apart.
Injected into acne or surgical scars after subcision or microneedling to support the collagen response.
Scar revisionPRP and exosomes are sometimes applied together after microneedling. Dr. Kuzel advises when the combination adds anything.
ExosomesPRP spread on unbroken skin does not penetrate. It is always paired with a procedure that opens the skin.
A PRP session takes forty-five to seventy-five minutes including the draw and preparation.
Because PRP is your own blood, reactions to it are rare. The recovery is the recovery of the procedure underneath.
PRP is cosmetic and is not covered by Alberta Health Care. It is priced per session and as a course, alone or as an addition to microneedling or laser, and quoted at consultation.

Skin looks brighter within a week of each session as it heals, then improves in texture, fine lines and tone over the following four to six weeks as collagen forms. The result builds over a course of three and is assessed at three months, with photographs.
Under the eyes, crepe and texture improve over two to three sessions and dark circles from thin skin lighten. A hollow needs filler and PRP will not fill it; Dr. Kuzel says which you have.
PRP is a quality treatment, not a volume or lifting treatment. It suits patients who want their skin to look healthier without changing its shape, and it is honest about that.

For skin quality with microneedling, acne scars with microneedling or laser, and faster recovery after resurfacing, controlled studies support it. As a filler, a lift or on intact skin, it is not supported.
PRP is your own concentrated platelets; exosomes are a manufactured product. Both improve skin quality with microneedling and shorten recovery after laser. They are sometimes combined. Dr. Kuzel advises by the condition.
The blood draw is a routine venepuncture. The skin is numbed for microneedling and under-eye injection. Most patients describe pressure and warmth rather than pain.
Three, four to six weeks apart, for skin quality. Two to three, a month apart, under the eyes. Maintenance once or twice a year if wanted.
No. PRP improves the quality of thin under-eye skin. A hollow is a volume problem and is treated with filler. Dr. Kuzel examines and says which you have, and sometimes both are used.
PRP is your own blood, so allergic reaction is not a concern. Risks are those of the procedure it accompanies: redness, swelling, bruising and, rarely, infection. It is not used in blood disorders, active infection or active cancer.
Avoid ibuprofen and other anti-inflammatories for a week before and after, because they blunt the platelet response. Acetaminophen is fine.
Brighter skin within a week; texture, fine lines and tone improve over four to six weeks after each session, and the result is assessed at three months.
