Back in 1978, when it was first approved as a therapeutic treatment for crossed eyes, few could have imagined how revolutionary neuromodulators would be. Since then, neuromodulators have become a medical and cosmetic panacea, effectively treating everything from crossed eyes to migraines to excessive sweating, to facial lines and wrinkles.
Today, neuromodulators are the most common non-surgical cosmetic procedure in North America, used to smooth and treat or prevent fine lines and wrinkles in the upper face, on the forehead and around the eyes.
When administering neuromodulators, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. That’s why Dr. Kuzel starts with a consultation to discuss your aesthetic goals and creates a customized treatment plan tailored to your desired outcome. He takes the time to observe your natural facial expressions and designs a treatment to keep you looking refreshed and radiant, not frozen.
As a skilled injector with years of education and expertise, Dr. Kuzel executes a precise and even distribution, tailoring the injections to suit your unique facial anatomy and the natural-looking outcome you seek.
Neuromodulators work by relaxing the muscles that cause lines, leaving the skin smoother, tighter and wrinkle-free. They’re derived from a complex protein made from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. This protein is purified 27 times before it becomes the product we know as neuromodulators.
Learn MoreOnce you and Dr. Kuzel have discussed your aesthetic goals for neuromodulator injections, your procedure can begin.
Dr. Kuzel will disinfect the treatment area. He'll ask you to make different facial expressions, like furrowing, frowning, smiling or squinting. Next, he’ll administer very small injections to the muscle locations with a very fine microneedle. The entire procedure typically takes 10 to 20 minutes and most patients report feeling no pain at all during the injections.
Neuromodulator injections pose few risks or side effects. However, the most common side effects include minor bruising and a bit of tenderness around the injected sites. These usually resolve within the first 24 to 48 hours. We'll send you home with tips for facial movements to help your injections distribute more evenly.
Results from neuromodulator injections can last anywhere from three to six months. Regular touch-up treatments may be recommended for maintenance.
About a week after your appointment, we’ll check in to and see how you’re doing. If this is your first treatment, Dr. Kuzel or his team will set a follow-up to assess your results. We’ll send you home with contact information in case you need to follow up.
